Junior Christmas Match 2008
11th October- Junior Cistern
With the onset of autumn, the sport on the junior pool had slowed for the annual Junior Christmas match. Most competitors struggled to attract a few bites but all kept trying until the end and everybody was rewarded with a prize at the end of the contest.
The 8-12 years field was headed by new boy, Jamie Stebbings, who had a few small fish to add to a decent skimmer bream all taken on pole fished maggot that took the scales round to 1-10-0. Trailing some way behind in second place was Callum Stagg who also used maggot to catch just three small fish for 0-2-8. Aron Coppack was the only other competitor in the field of six to record a catch with a single perch, again tempted with maggot for 0-1-0.
In the 13-16 years section it was another newbie, Ben Moores who stole the contest with a last minute tench which when added to a few small fish, just nicked the winner’s spot taking the scales round to 3-1-0. Ben also used pole fish maggot to assemble his catch. Stephen Finney had led for practically the whole match but had to be content with the runner-up place. He too caught a tench, this one on worm, to add to a few maggot caught fish that weighed in at 2-14-8. Gareth Evans completed the frame with a good number of very small fish on maggot presented on the pole that scaled 1-6-0.

Sixth Summer Series Match 2008
28tht August - Junior Cistern
The final points and positions in the Summer Series aggregate table were wrapped up at the end of the last match.
In the 8-12 years section, on what proved to be generally a day of slow sport Joe Hunt finished his campaign in style by netting a new record heaviest fish for a junior match, a 16 pound 13 ounce Mirror carp. Fishing pellet with a 6 metre pole, Joe did well to land the fish on 6 pound line straight through to a size 16 hook in a battle in which he was always in command. A few much smaller fish totalling a further 13 ounces took his final weight to 17-10-0. Shannon Bellis caught roach and rudd on pole fished maggot for a comparatively meagre 0-13-0 for the runner-up spot.
Stephen Finney switched between maggot and pellet hook baits fished on pole to assemble a mixed bag of roach, rudd, perch and crucians that scaled 3-10-8 and comfortably win the 13-16 years section. Fishing a similar style, Gareth Evans put 1-4-0 into the weighing net for second place. Shane Bellis completed the frame with a four fish catch totalling 0-8-0.

Fifth Summer Series Match 2008
21st August - Junior Cistern
This penultimate round of the Summer Series saw the first and second aggregate standings settled in the 8-12 years section and the top three in the 13-16 years section cannot be caught although their order in the tables has still to be decided.
Joe Hunt ensured a maximum possible haul of 48 points in the 8-12 years with another win although this time he left it until late in the day before sealing first place. He had caught only a single rudd on maggot after an unsuccessful period on pellet. Pellet then eventually lured a solitary small fish before a switch back to maggot garnered him a late bream close to a couple of pounds to steal the match with 2-2-8.
Shannon Bellis caught perch, roach and gudgeon along with a decent crucian on maggot and was unfortunate to lose a very good fish which snagged her after running through a sunken branch. At the end of the match Shannon placed 1-10-0 on the scales.
Stephen Finney also came through with a late run to secure his win in the 13-16 years section after failing to nail a fish after a protracted period on pellet. His eventual switch to maggot finally yielded results with quality skimmers and small fish that took the scales to a level 4 pounds. Gareth Evans, still somewhat handicapped with a broken wrist, caught rudd and perch on maggot initially before switching to pellet to add a few skimmers for a total of 3-1-8 for the runner-up spot. Shane Bellis completed the frame, catching 0-13-0 of rudd on maggot.

Fourth Summer Series Match 2008
14th August – Junior Cistern
First of all I would like thank Tony Wisden for officiating at this match in my absence through illness. It was much appreciated.
With some returns from family holidays we had at least matches in both age sections albeit with only small fields of competitors. The 8-12 years section was headed by Joe Hunt who won by a comfortable margin who had a mixed bag of crucians, skimmers and tench that took the scales round to 6-10-0. Hideyoshi Warburton, fishing his first Summer series match, caught roach, rudd and crucians scaling 1-10-0.
In the 13-16 years section Gareth Evans received special permission to have help with the shipping and unshipping of his pole sections due to his having a broken wrist. Gareth stormed to the head of the field with a 6-12-0 catch of crucians, tench, rudd and perch for his first match win of the season. Runner-up was Stephen Finney with 5-14-0 bag of tench, bream, and roach to finish in front of Adam Jones who registered a level 5 pounds.

Second Summer Series Match 2008
31st July – Junior Cistern
Excellent winning weights were taken in both of the age sections but after that the returns once again proved disappointing. Two tench, one nearing three pounds, skimmers and a few small fish taken on pellet presented on a pole rig at 5 metres close to an overhanging tree gave Joe Hunt an easy victory in the 8-12 years age group. Joe’s catch scaled 7-12-0.
A distant second was Shannon Bellis who struggled for bites before eventually landing a solitary skimmer scaling 9 ounces which she took on maggot at 4 metres. Third was Daniel Newsham who caught two rudd and a perch on maggot for a weight of 0-4-8.
A country mile separated Stephen Finney from the rest of the field in the 13-16 years age group. His 9-11-0 catch was made up of rudd, crucians, skimmers plus a bonus bream all taken on caster at 10 metres. A level pound was all Matthew Newsham, making his match fishing debut, needed to secure the runner-up spot. Matthew fished maggot on a whip at 4 and 5 metres to take a bag of small rudd, perch and gudgeon. Luke Ormond fished maggot at 7 metres to take a mainly rudd catch scaling 0-12-0.

First Summer Series Match 2008
24th July – Junior Cistern
The first match of the Summer Series got off to hesitant start with most competitors struggling to get bites in what seemed ideal conditions on a warm and overcast morning.
After catching only a single rudd on maggot fished on the drop, Abbie Vickers switched to pellet presented close to the side to bag a fine crucian of well over a pound and a tench. Despite losing a large carp later in the match, the three fish were enough for a comfortable victory in the 8-12 years section, weighing in at 2-12-8. Adam Robinson’s favourite slow sinking maggot tactics yielded a total of 1-8-0 of rudd and a single crucian for the second spot with Joe Hunt using similar tactics for a level pound of mainly rudd.
A single crucian tempted on corn added to a bag of roach, rudd and perch taken on maggot gave Shane Bellis a winning weight of 1-12-0 in the 13-16 years section. A distant second was Gareth Evans who after losing a good fish in the weeds, was only able to put a few small fish on the scales for 0-4-0. Third was Danny Cooper with a solitary one ounce rudd.

Fifth Early Season Series Match 2008
18th July – Junior Cistern
The final match of the Early Season Series was fished in muggy conditions on the Junior Pool. In the 8-12 years section Abbie Vickers recorded her debut match win with a silver fish bag caught on bottom fished pellet at five metres. Catching steadily throughout the contest, Abbie placed 2-4-8 on the scales. Runner up on the night was Adam Robinson who fished maggot on the drop on a rig plumbed to full depth catching a mostly rudd bag of 2-2-0 which enabled him to leapfrog to the top of the final aggregate table. Third was Joe Hunt with 0-15-0 of roach and rudd which was enough to secure the aggregate runner-up spot.
Bream, tench and crucian carp along with some bits caught on pellet gave Adam Jones a comfortable winning margin on the night with 7-9-8 which enabled him to fill the second placed berth in the 13-16 years aggregate table. Kyle Williams had a late tench of around three pounds and a roach of about twelve ounces to add to some bits which together turned the scales to 4-8-0. This was enough to see Kyle head the age group aggregate table. Filling third place both on the night and in the aggregate table was William Acton who put together a catch of 3-9-0 of small fish taken on maggot.

Fourth Early Season Series Match 2008
11th July – Heesom’s Pool
Fishing on a water much deeper than they are used to, the competitors for the most part coped well with the unfamiliar venue.
Romping home in the 8-12 age group was Hideyoshi Warburton who presented red maggot on the bottom over groundbait to put a catch together of skimmers, roach and crucians plus a single tench that totalled 7-9-0. A distant second was Joe Hunt who fished maggot over groundbait on the deck to bag skimmers, roach and perch for 3-9-0. Claiming third place was Adam Robinson whose up in the water tactics with white maggot brought a roach and perch catch of 2-6-0.
William Acton was at the front of the 13-16 years field with a 5-0-0 bag of skimmers, roach and perch taken on disco maggot fished on the bottom. The runner-up spot was filled by Kyle Williams with 3-15-0 of skimmers, roach, crucians and perch taken on bottom fished double red maggot. Stephen Finney fished both on the bottom and up in the water with maggot for 2-13-0 of skimmers, rudd and roach.

Third Early Season Series Match 2008
4th July – Middle & Top Cisterns
The Top and Middle Cisterns were utilised again for the third match of the series with the 8-12 years section this time fishing in the Top pool. All three contestants elected to fish up in the water with maggot and as a result rudd provided the bulk of all the catches. Joe Hunt headed the field to record his first match win of the season. Joe fished at 4 and 5 metres and hooked a bonus crucian of about half a pound to boost his winning total to 3-5-0. Hideyoshi Warburton and Shannon Bellis both placed 1-12-0 on the scales for a dead heat for the runner up with Hideyoshi doing particularly well to recover from a late start due to traffic problems on the way to the match.
Recording a debut win, Kyle Williams fished pinkie up in the water to catch rudd and roach, some of a good stamp to finish a comfortable winner with 4-9-0. Adam Jones had to be content with second place this week after recording a weight of 3-2-0. Adam’s catch was made up of skimmers, rudd and half a dozen small tench temted by alternated casters and pellet presented on the bottom. The frame was completed by Stephen Finney with 2-5-0 of rudd taken on up in the water tactics.

Second Early Season Series Match 2008
27th June – Middle & Top Cisterns
The 8-12 years section occupied the Middle pool for the second match in the Early Season Series. Recording his first match win, Adam Robinson presented maggot pole fished up in the water to catch mainly rudd at 4 metres totalling 3-1-0.
Runner-up was Hide Yoshi Warburton who fished at 6 metres to present maggot for a bag of rudd and roach which fell just short of the winning bag at 2-13-0. Third place was filled by Joe Hunt whose all rudd catch fell to maggot taken at 3 metres.
Adam Jones snatched victory on the top pool in the 13-16 years section with a last gasp bonus crucian on pellet to add to a bag of silver fish to record 2-6-0. Leading the match until Adam’s bonus fish,
Kyle Williams was pushed into second place. His catch of 2-3-0 was made up of mainly small rudd taken on maggot high in the water at 8 metres. As if to emphasise how tight this low scoring contest was, two competitors shared third place with 1-14-0. William Acton pole fished with maggot to take rudd on the drop, while Stephen Finney presented maggot and pellet on the bottom for a mixed bag off rudd, roach, perch and a skimmer.

First Early Season Series Match 2008
21st June – Junior Cistern
Some good weights were recorded in the opening fixture of the junior match campaign. With many of last years contestants moving up into the older age group, there were only two entrants in the 8-12 years section. On her debut match Shannon Bellis had a comfortable winning margin over her rival. Her catch of 1-9-0 comprised of rudd plus a single small tench taken at 6 metres with maggot on the hook. After a very slow start, a change of hook size and shotting, put Adam Robinson onto a few bites and he eventually put 10 ounces on the scales.
The 13 – 16 years age group was headed by Luke Ormond with 14-6-0. After taking mainly rudd and a single tench with the pole at 6 metres on maggot, Luke switched for the last 40 minutes, to double caster down the side where he had fed throughout to land a further four good sized tench. The runner-up was William Acton who caught tench of a slightly smaller stamp on corn and pellet pole fished close to the branches of a tree, after initially bagging silver fish on maggot. William’s catch scaled 9-13-0.
Stephen Finney completed the frame with 8-15-8. Struggling to put a decent catch together after losing a couple of large fish on the pole, Stephen switched to floating dog biscuit to snare a 6-5-0 carp in the final few minute of the contest to total 8-15-8 and snatch third place.
